Jerusalem, July 16, 2008 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed sincere condolences to the families of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, IDF soldiers whose bodies were returned by Hezbollah.
The soldiers were kidnapped by Hezbollah on July 12, 2006 and from that time until today Hezbollah cruelly refused to provide information as to their condition, and did not permit the International Red Cross access to the soldiers.
"Our thoughts and prayers today are with the families of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, who is currently in Israel.
"The handover of Samir Kuntar, who was responsible for one of the most infamous terrorist attacks in Israel's history, along with four other terrorists, was not easy for Israel. However, in this very difficult arrangement, Israel has once again demonstrated its moral integrity and sense of responsibility in caring for its soldiers.
"We call for the immediate release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, who has been held by Hamas since his abduction from an Israeli military base on June 25, 2006.
"We further call on Hezbollah, Iran, and other parties to release all information concerning the other missing Israeli soldiers, including Ron Arad, who was captured on October 16, 1986, and Zachary Baumel, Tzvi Feldman and Yehuda Katz who were captured on June 11, 1982.
"We thank Germany and the United Nations, and in particular, the special mediator, who worked tirelessly to mediate the arrangements of the soldiers return, and urge them to continue to press for information on the remaining soldiers."
