French Advertising Magnate Honored by ADL
New York, NY, January 18, 2008 … Maurice Lévy, a leading French businessman and advertising magnate, was honored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in recognition of his commitment to diversity in the corporate world and for his relentless fight against anti-Semitism in France and globally. Lévy is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Publicis Groupe, one of the world's preeminent advertising companies.
In presenting him with the 2008 International Leadership Award at a gala dinner in New York City, Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, said: "Maurice has taken his vision and put it into
practice, making Publicis Groupe not just a leading global advertising and communications group, but also a leader in
promoting diversity and respect for culture and identity."
In his keynote address, French philosopher and author Bernard-Henri Lévy lauded Maurice Lévy as "a great Frenchmen and a great Jew," and cited his commitment to promoting respect and understanding in the Middle East. "Maurice has always been at the front line when it comes to defending his beliefs," Lévy said. "He is an example to us all."
In response, Maurice Lévy said: "I am deeply honored by this award from the Anti-Defamation League. It also makes me very proud of what the networks and agencies of the Publicis Groupe have achieved over the years. We have put diversity at the very heart of our recruitment and retention policies, throughout the Groupe, around the world."
Glen S. Lewy, ADL National Chairman, praised Lévy for his "exemplary leadership." Other speakers included Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, and a past recipient of the International Leadership Award, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, Chairman of L'Oréal. Shimon Peres, President of the State of Israel, also recognized Lévy's achievements in a pre-recorded message.
Journalist Charlie Rose served as Master of Ceremonies. Israeli international recording artist Noa performed several musical selections during the dinner.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
