ADL Statement About Los Angeles Terrorist Threat

Los Angeles, CA, August 17, 2005 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today praised the FBI, Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and all the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and arrest of suspects who may have targeted Jewish institutions.

"The ADL consistently monitors the dangers of extremism in the prisons, the radicalization of Islam and domestic terrorist threats in Southern California," said Amanda Susskind, ADL Los Angeles Regional Director.  "We are particularly concerned about this alleged terrorist plot because it seems to include disturbing aspects of all three trends."

ADL continues to work with law enforcement agencies and assists the Jewish community about issues of security.  The ADL has planned a security briefing for Jewish institutions on September 15.  Representatives from ADL, Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI will discuss global, national and local security concerns.  Participants will receive ADL's revised and updated manual and companion DVD, "Protecting your Jewish Institution:  Security Strategies for Today's Dangerous World."

"In light of local and world events, all Jewish institutions must continue to be alert and vigilant," said Susskind.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
