PROTECT Plan to Fight Domestic Terrorism

On January 6, 2021, Americans watched as a violent insurrection fueled by extremist conspiracy theories and white supremacy gripped the nation and attacked our democracy. This was a predictable act of political violence fueled by years of increasing domestic violent extremism. The forces that led to the attack on our Capitol continue to pose a threat to American security and our democracy today.

ADL has been the leader in advocating for policies to counter the surge of domestic violent extremism. We’ve seen great progress so far, but there’s much work that remains.

ADL’s three-pronged approach to national advocacy

The PROTECT Plan complements ADL’s COMBAT Plan to fight antisemitism and REPAIR Plan to address online hate. Together, these three plans – PROTECT, COMBAT and REPAIR—along with ADL’s Democracy Initiative—round out ADL’s whole-of-society advocacy agenda.  ADL is mobilizing its full resources and capacities in pursuit of these comprehensive policy agendas on the international, national, state, and local levels.

Support the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act: Urge your Senators to support immediate passage of this Act, which would require federal law enforcement agencies to regularly assess domestic terrorism threats and provide training and resources to assist state, local and tribal law enforcement.
