ADL Re-Releases Report on 'Unrepentant Bigot' Pat Buchanan

New York, NY, February 28, 2012 … In response to those who have suggested that conservative commentator Pat Buchanan was unfairly dismissed from his role as an on-air political analyst at MSNBC, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today re-released its seminal report detailing Buchanan's long history of engaging in racism and anti-Semitism.

"Now that he has lost his position as a paid commentator at MSNBC, Pat Buchanan is trying to portray himself as an innocent victim of a campaign to discredit him," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "But if one looks at his long record of racism and anti-Semitism, it becomes clear that Buchanan is really the victim of his own, cumulative bigotry.  Thanks in large part to the Internet and his many books and columns, Buchanan's bigoted views are no longer hidden from view."

The ADL report, "Pat Buchanan: Unrepentant Bigot" shows Buchanan is hardly the mainstream political commentator he claims to be.  Through a collection of his statements over nearly three decades, up to and including his most recent book, "Suicide of a Superpower," the League demonstrates how Buchanan routinely and obsessively engages in expressing racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-immigrant views.

"For us it is a badge of honor that Buchanan has blamed us and the networks for waging a backroom campaign to turn him into a pariah," said Mr. Foxman.  "There were no 'backroom deals.' Buchanan's own words and actions have made it evident to the public that his views are clearly unacceptable and far outside of the mainstream."

In Buchanan's most recent book, "Suicide of a Superpower," released in October 2011, he laments that the United States is becoming an increasingly diverse country, that minorities will soon outnumber white Americans and that the country "is disintegrating, ethnically, culturally, morally, politically."  Buchanan is particularly concerned with the increase in the Hispanic population in the United States, which he equates with the demise of America's white European heritage.

In October 2011, Buchanan appeared on "The Political Cesspool," a radio show run by a white supremacist.  This was his third appearance on the show, which regularly features racists and anti-Semites as guests.  On the program Buchanan claimed that when whites become a minority in the U.S., they will face havoc and turmoil that Californians are allegedly experiencing due to the growing Hispanic and minority population in that state.

In addition to his book, Buchanan's columns from 2010 and 2011 paint a picture of an America where whites have lost their privilege and will suffer due to "a multiracial, multicultural, multiethnic, multilingual stew of a nation that has never before existed, or survived."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
