New Black Panther Party Fundraising Page Removed After Being Flagged by ADL

New York, NY, October 2, 2014 … An online crowdsourcing platform that allows individuals and groups to raise money for a variety of causes has removed a page established by the anti-Semitic New Black Panther Party after it was flagged by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The New Black Panther Party (NBPP), the most prominent organized anti-Semitic and racist black militant group in America, which recently played a role in enflaming racial tensions in Ferguson, Missouri, had established a page on GoFundMe soliciting donations for the group’s activities.

ADL flagged the page, and notified the company that NBPP’s use of the site appeared to be a violation of their terms of service, which explicitly prohibit promoting “hate, violence, racial intolerance … (and) content associated with hate groups.”

“We are gratified that GoFundMe took action,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  “No reputable site should give a platform to a group like the New Black Panthers, whose demonstrations and other events blend inflammatory bigotry and anti-Semitism with calls for violence.  We applaud GoFundMe for enforcing its terms of service and not allowing hate groups to exploit the site to raise funds that would be used to promote anti-Semitic and hateful messages.”

Before it was taken down, the NBPP’s GoFundMe page showed that the group had raised $700 from 19 people, with a goal to raise $20,000. Mr. Foxman added,

Last month, ADL announced the release of a series of Best Practices designed by a working group of top industry leaders, including Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter, to address cyber-hate.
