What’s Happening on Campus?
There have been a few antisemitic and anti-Israel incidents on campus in the last year. In late October 2023, two undergraduate students were arrested after encamping on a campus lawn, demanding several things, including the school’s divestment from Israel and the end of Dartmouth’s academic exchange with Israeli universities. While the students had peacefully protested for several days, school officials said the situation escalated when the students threatened “physical action.”
In late February 2024, a group of students began a hunger strike, demanding the College support a ceasefire, end its exchange programs with Israeli universities and drop charges against the two students arrested for trespassing during the earlier protest.
There have been other calls for divestment and for the school to disassociate from Israeli universities, and occasional incidents of swastikas found on campus.
University Policies and Responsive Action
The College authored a strong statement and hosted public forums in the immediate aftermath of the October 7 terrorist attack.
