2025 Report Card
San Diego State University (SDSU) has a Hillel, Chabad, Jewish Greek life and the Friends of Jewish Studies.
What’s Happening on Campus?
As a proactive measure, SDSU's Senate authored a resolution against antisemitism in July 2021.
In March 2023, the campus Chabad Jewish Center menorah was vandalized and damaged. Later that year, in November 2023, two individuals were caught tearing down posters of kidnapped Israeli civilians held by Hamas. In January 2024, an intruder harassed residents of a Jewish fraternity using antisemitic slurs.
In April 2024, an SJP-led group of anti-Israel protestors organized a walkout to call for SDSU to divest.
In August 2024, a Jewish student was harassed by a professor. In October 2024, a professor at the university singled out a Jewish student wearing a Star of David in their class and stated to them "Palestine is important to me and it is a real country, and we are not going to argue that.”
University Policies and Responsive Action
In November 2023, the university investigated allegations related to individuals removing flyers of Israeli hostages. In January 2024, SDSU sent an email to students offering support in the aftermath of the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
In Spring 2021, a task force underscoring a commitment to community and combatting antisemitism was established, evolving into the Presidential Task Force on Strengthening Community and Combating Antisemitism by Fall 2024. The task force includes content experts both internal and external to SDSU and releases an annual report with recommendations.
SDSU has integrated educational training related to antisemitism into New Student Orientation (completed by more than 95% of all incoming students), and antisemitism is addressed in SDSU’s Equity-Minded Campus Community Training program and the Inclusive Leadership Awareness Training for all student leaders.
The University is part of the Murray Galinson San Diego-Israel Initiative (MGSDII), which includes academic courses, lectures, Israel immersion experiences for students and faculty, visiting Israeli professors and other programs.
*Following the implementation of new policy actions, SDSU’s 2025 grade was revised from a C to a B on April 4, 2025.
