What’s Happening on Campus?
While antisemitic incidents are not widespread, in April 2023, swastika graffiti was discovered on the University of South Carolina campus. The following month, an egg was thrown at the Anne Frank Center.
In May 2024, following a warning urging protestors to disperse, law enforcement dismantled an on-campus encampment.
University Policies and Responsive Action
In October 2023, the University of South Carolina leadership publicly condemned the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel, reflecting on the tragedy with a minute of silence for the victims.
In September 2024, the University hosted the “Tackling Antisemitism on College Campuses” summit. This event brought together a diverse group of university administrators, educators, policymakers, students, and community leaders to discuss strategies for combating antisemitism in higher education.
Additionally, the Anne Frank Center at the university serves as a vital educational resource, being the only North American partner of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. This center underscores the University of South Carolina's commitment to education and remembrance in the struggle against antisemitism and intolerance.
