California State University, Northridge (CSUN) has a Chabad, a Hillel that serves the San Fernando Valley, and Jewish Greek life organizations. A chapter of the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) is also present at CSUN.

What’s Happening on Campus?

In July 2023, graffiti in a bathroom included the phone number of a Jewish student and read: "please spam [phone number], He's a Zionist, Hurt his feelings, Free Palestine!"

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is active on the CSUN campus and has held rallies and walk-outs since October 7. SJP has also called on the University to divest from Israel and shared a statement from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a terrorist organization, on its Instagram story.

In November 2023, a flyer titled "Murdered by Israel" with a photo of a child and the caption "Palestinians have every right to their land. Palestinians have every right to resist" was posted on campus.

Prior to October 7, the University experienced a serious incident in 2018 when a threat of a mass shooting against African American and Jewish individuals was made on campus.

University Policies and Responsive Action

The CSUN student government has adopted the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism, and the University has upheld its student code of conduct and policies when student organizations have violated the rules.

In August 2024, the California State University (CSU) system published updated time, place, and manner policies, expressing clear intent to enforce these restrictions in the coming year across all 23 campuses, including at CSU Northridge.
