Litigation & Investigations

In August 2024, the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law announced a settlement with NC State following a mediation process with the U.S. Department of Education. This settlement addressed a complaint about antisemitism on campus.

What’s Happening on Campus?

In November 2023, at an anti-Israel rally at North Carolina State University, protesters held signs with messages that included: "By any means necessary," "From the river to the sea," "Resistance is justified when people are occupied" and "I dare one Zionist to successfully trace lineage back to Palestine" (replacing the "o" in "Zionist" with a Star of David).

In September 2024, the NC State Student Senate attempted to overturn a veto by the Student Body President of a resolution that supported the BDS movement. This attempt ultimately failed.

In October 2024, a chalk message was left near a display of Israeli flags on the campus of North Carolina State University that read "Glory to the martyrs" with an inverted red triangle, a symbol that first appeared in Hamas propaganda videos.

University Policies and Responsive Action

As part of the agreement with the Brandeis Center, the university committed to adopting a comprehensive non-discrimination policy aligned with the 2019 Executive Order 13899 and the Shalom Act (North Carolina's House Bill 942), utilizing the IHRA working definition of antisemitism.

Additionally, NC State will be revising training programs for both students and staff and conducting a campus survey to assess the extent of antisemitic sentiment.
