Jewish life at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is supported by a Hillel, Chabad, and Jewish Greek life.

Litigation & Investigations

In Spring 2024, a Jewish student filed a lawsuit against the school, its president and the UNLV SJP and the National SJP, claiming that his civil rights had been violated amid persistent antisemitic actions and protests.

What’s Happening on Campus?

In November 2023, an Israeli student found his car vandalized with cups displaying swastikas and a Star of David. The same month, multiple students reported an increase in antisemitic incidents on campus, prompting concerns about student safety and campus climate. In February 2024, during a guest lecture by an Israeli physics professor, anti-Israel protesters interrupted the session, causing it to end prematurely.

In May 2024, the university community rallied against antisemitism, drawing hundreds of participants.

University Policies and Responsive Action

In Spring 2024, the UNLV administration met with members of the campus SJP, discussing divestment demands without making any formal commitment. Instead, the administration planned to consult with their Investment Committee to review their strategies and holdings.

In June 2024, the Nevada System of Higher Education took a significant step by officially defining antisemitism in its handbook, reflecting concerns from Jewish students across state campuses. Furthermore, UNLV has integrated the IHRA definition into resource guides, providing a clearer framework for addressing antisemitism on campus.

A new Taskforce on Jewish Identity and Inclusion has been established, aiming to foster a more inclusive environment for Jewish students on campus.
