2025 Report Card
San Francisco State University (SFSU) has a Hillel and Jewish Greek life on campus. They also have a position in their Office of Diversity, Student Equity, and Interfaith Programs which serves the Jewish community; this is called the Coordinator, Jewish Student Life and Interfaith Programs.
What’s Happening on Campus?
In March 2023, a student made antisemitic statements during a meeting for a campus event, prompting the university to issue a statement expressing concern.
In November 2023, “Kill all Zionists” was scrawled on a bathroom wall at SFSU.
In May 2024, anti-Israel protestors established an encampment on campus. The encampment was dismantled following administrator negotiations with the protestors that led to the announcement that the University would divest from weapons manufacturers, but with the decision not being tied to a specific region or incident.
In September 2024, an off-campus rally with language deemed inflammatory was co-sponsored by SFSU-affiliated groups.
In October 2024, anti-Israel protesters held signs with messages that included “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
In December 2024, the San Francisco Hillel House near SFSU’s campus was vandalized with antisemitic graffiti, with the perpetrators most likely not being affiliated with SFSU.
University Policies and Responsive Action
In 2023, SF State’s Division of Equity and Community Inclusion invited ADL Central Pacific Region to present on campus to educate students, faculty, and staff on understanding and addressing antisemitism.
SF State maintains partnerships with SF Hillel, Hillel International, and other organizations dedicated to Jewish student life.
In 2022, following a survey where 65% of Jewish students expressed the need to hide their identity, the university announced a comprehensive plan to tackle antisemitism. This included incorporating antisemitism education into campus trainings and creating a digital library of resources on the topic.
Additionally, the university has frequently condemned antisemitic incidents, as seen with their swift denunciation of the November 2023 graffiti incident along with supporting affected students through resources.
