ADL Applauds Dept. of Justice Police Roll-Call Training Video on Working with Transgender Individuals

New York, NY, August 25, 2016 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today praised a new Department of Justice Community Relations Service roll-call training video, “Law Enforcement and the Transgender Community,” that models best practices for police interactions with transgender individuals.

The short roll-call training video uses real-world scenarios that demonstrate best practices and respectful interactions between law enforcement officers and members of the transgender community. The video was developed in collaboration with the National Center for Transgender Equality, PFLAG National, and the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland.

“This new DOJ initiative on law enforcement interactions with transgender individuals continues the tremendous work of Department of Justice in promoting cultural competencies,” said Deborah M. Lauter, ADL Senior Vice President of Policy and Programs. “We believe that this video also has great potential to make a significant contribution to improved awareness and respect between police and members of the transgender community.”

ADL is the leading non-governmental provider in the United States for law enforcement training on hate crimes, extremism and terrorism.
