New York, NY, July 5, 2015… The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned Donald Trump’s recent remarks about immigrants as hate speech and stereotyping, and called on him to stop spreading misinformation and fomenting hatred against immigrants.
"Donald Trump’s hate speech against immigrants is highly inappropriate and we join with the voices of many others around the country who have condemned his offensive remarks," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "It is time for Trump to stop spreading misinformation and hatred against immigrants, legal and undocumented."
When Trump announced his run for president on June 16, he referred to Mexicans as rapists and criminals and accused them of bringing drugs into the U.S. Almost two weeks later, when attempting to clarify his comments on CNN, he extended his vitriol toward other immigrants by suggesting that people coming over the border were "really bad." He added, "You have people coming in, and I’m not just saying Mexicans, I’m talking about people that are from all over that are killers and rapists and they’re coming into this country."
Trump is among several figures who have been demonizing immigrants in the last few weeks. Political pundit Ann Coulter has a new book on the New York Times bestseller list that attacks the Latino community, particularly Mexicans. And political pundit and one-time presidential aspirant Pat Buchanan has also weighed in on the issue.
