Washington, D.C., June 25, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is deeply troubled by rallies organized by members of the so-called “Alt Right” and “alt light” scheduled to take place later today in Washington, D.C.

The first rally at the Lincoln Memorial is slated to feature several personalities from the “Alt Right,” including Richard Spencer and Nathan Damigo. A competing rally near the White House organized by those on the “alt light” – dubbed the “Rally Against Political Violence,” and ostensibly focused on opposition to political violence – is scheduled to take place near the White House.

“White supremacy and hate, and those who exist in that orbit, need to be rejected,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “When white supremacists and their apologists feel their messages are getting mainstream attention and have an audience, that should raise alarm bells for all Americans across the political spectrum who reject hatred and bigotry.”

As a result of the “Alt Right” being emboldened over the last several months, public rallies are increasingly common, according to ADL’s Center on Extremism, which monitors and exposes the activities of extremists both on the far right and far left.
