ADL Expresses Deep Appreciation to Outgoing Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel for His Record of Service

New York, NY, November 24, 2014 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed deep appreciation to outgoing Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel for his record of service to the United States and his leadership in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

We deeply appreciate Chuck Hagel’s record of service to the United States and leadership in the fight against terror and extremism and for civil rights and human dignity during his tenure as Secretary of Defense.

Secretary Hagel’s energetic stewardship of America’s commitment to Israel’s security in a dangerous region has been vital as Israel has faced unprecedented threats.  His hands-on engagement to ensure that our ally, Israel, can live in safety and security and maintain its rightful place in the community of nations will have a lasting impact.

Secretary Hagel has advanced the cause of civil rights and human dignity at home. His leadership in implementing the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy has made America’s military a place where all qualified Americans who volunteer to stand up and defend our country can serve their nation and reach their highest potential.

We wish him all the best as he concludes his tenure and moves on to his next chapter of service.
