ADL Expresses Shock at the Portrayal of Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked as Hitler on Social Media

Jerusalem, November 4, 2015… The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed shock at a photo circulating on social media portraying Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked with a Hitler-like moustache.

The photo, titled “Heil-et Shaked”, was posted in reaction to Shaked’s drafting of a Knesset bill which would require representatives of foreign funded NGO’s to wear special badges while visiting the Knesset.

Carole Nuriel, Acting Director of ADL's Israel office, issued the following statement:

We are shocked at the use of Nazi imagery to demonize an Israeli government minister. This is not the first time such hateful images have been created to portray Israeli political leaders, and its use trivializes the Holocaust and the horrendous crimes perpetrated by the Nazis. Israeli law enforcement officials should investigate this incident and take appropriate legal action against those responsible for creating and disseminating this photo.

In the days surrounding the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, we must recall the incitement which lead to his murder, and remember that violent imagery can lead to violent actions.
