New York, NY, May 15, 2018 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has launched a new resource, “Hate/Uncycled,” for college and university administrators and campus law enforcement to understand, combat and prevent bias and hate. The resource provides important tools and guidance for a holistic approach to prevention and responding to bias and hate incidents on campus.
“Prevention is just as important as response. ADL is committed to ensuring the success of inclusive and respectful campus communities across the nation,” said Elissa Buxbaum, ADL Director of Campus Affairs. “Hate/Uncycled is just the latest installment in ADL’s innovative work partnering with colleges and universities to dismantle bias and hate.”
“Hate/Uncycled” offers guidance for handling appearances by extremist groups on campus, as well as best practices for law enforcement in responding to bias and hate incidents. The resource also discusses free speech issues, and offers administrators guidance on navigating the complexities of bias and hate on campus while also creating an environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, equity, and a sense of belonging.
ADL’s 25 regional offices routinely work closely with campus administrators and faculty to deal with issues of hate on campus and will be sharing this new resource with campuses nationwide.
