New York, NY, October 26, 2017 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded Reddit for its decision to remove Nazi, white supremacist and other hate-based groups from its site as part of a new policy change that bans certain violent material.
Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director, issued the following statement:
“ADL applauds Reddit’s leadership on this issue and its decision to stop content ‘that encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence or physical harm against an individual or a group of people.’ We need only to look at Charlottesville to see an example where extremist groups use social media to enflame situations and cause harm.
"Reddit’s action is very consistent with ADL’s Best Practices for Responding to Cyberhate, released in 2014, which urged platforms to use explicit community guidelines coupled with transparent and honest enforcement to foster a better internet environment.
"We look forward to working with Reddit through our Silicon Valley-based Center on Technology and Society which is focused on this issue.”
