New York, NY, September 8, 2022 ... ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) today issued the following statement on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II:
We join with millions of people around the world in mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in Britain and an inspiring and beloved figure who exemplified respect for all people and cultures. Queen Elizabeth was at the center of many of the most important moments of modern history, from driving a military truck in World War II, to overseeing 15 prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss, and presiding over one of the longest democracies in history.
She was a great friend of the Jewish people and showed many acts of kindness to the UK Jewish community over many decades. The Queen memorably and movingly hosted a group of Holocaust survivors on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, and visited the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 2015. We send our deepest condolences to the UK Jewish community and our thoughts are with all Britons. May her memory be a blessing.
