New York, NY, October 19, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher to fully reject the views of a known Holocaust denier whom he recently invited to a meeting on Capitol Hill.
ADL was deeply disturbed by reports Rep. Rohrabacher had welcomed Charles C. Johnson to a meeting with Sen. Rand Paul on Oct. 5. Johnson is a known Holocaust denier who has suggested the number of Jewish victims was inflated and has posited that neither the Auschwitz concentration camp nor the gas chambers ever existed. ADL sent a letter to Rep. Rohrabacher yesterday, calling on him to “discontinue any association with Johnson and repudiate his views.”
“Any basic online search would have revealed that Johnson is a high-profile alt-right blogger and internet troll, a provocateur, and a Holocaust denier,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “It is an insult to the memories of those killed in the Holocaust, to the Jewish community, and to U.S. soldiers who fought to defeat Nazism to invite a Holocaust denier to the halls of Congress.”
Johnson exposed his Holocaust denial as recently as last January during an “Ask Me Anything (AMA)” session on Reddit, according to an analysis from ADL’s Center on Extremism. Asked for his opinion on the Holocaust and the “Jewish Question,” responded, “I do not and never have believed the six million figure,” adding that he agreed with notorious Holocaust denier David Cole “about Auschwitz and the gas chambers not being real.” This particular AMA was hosted in the “Altright” subreddit, a white nationalist online community focused on anti-Semitism, racism, and Holocaust denial.
