New York, NY, December 12, 2022 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) today welcomed the important announcement by the Biden Administration that they are forming a new interagency group to develop a national strategy to combat antisemitism, and thanked President Biden for his strong leadership in the fight against this growing hate. As President Biden has made clear, “Antisemitism has no place in America. All Americans should forcefully reject antisemitism – including Holocaust denial – wherever it exists.”
Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO, issued the following statement:
We welcome the Biden Administration’s announcement that they are forming a new interagency group to develop a national strategy to combat antisemitism and other forms of hate. This is one of the steps that we have long advocated for as part of a holistic approach to address the antisemitism has been increasingly normalized in society. We stand ready to lend our expertise and support to assist in the formation of this important national strategy.
ADL’s incident data shows that we are experiencing a crisis of rising antisemitism unlike any we have seen in more than 40 years, and this fact has been underscored by the antisemitic statements of Kanye West and other celebrities in recent weeks, as well as the failure of some political leaders to speak out against antisemitic conduct and statements from their peers.
It is critical for the American Jewish community, all Americans, and our international partners to see that the White House is dedicated to fighting back against rising hatred of Jews in society. As we have long called for in the COMBAT Plan, ADL believes a whole-of-government approach and a national strategy to combat antisemitism are needed to get to the heart of the problem.
ADL is the leading anti-hate organization in the world. Founded in 1913, its timeless mission is “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.” Today, ADL continues to fight all forms of antisemitism and bias, using innovation and partnerships to drive impact. A global leader in combating antisemitism, countering extremism and battling bigotry wherever and whenever it happens, ADL works to protect democracy and ensure a just and inclusive society for all.
