New York, NY, March 7, 2019 ... The ADL (Anti-Defamation League) today welcomed passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of a resolution on anti-Semitism that firmly condemned and rejected the dual loyalty myth and other anti-Semitic slurs.

Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director issued the following statement:

We are pleased the House of Representatives took a firm stance against anti-Semitism, including making an explicit statement rejecting the pernicious myth of dual loyalty and other vile slurs that have been used to persecute Jews for centuries.  We strongly agree that anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and other forms of hate constitute a threat to our democracy.

Through this process, leaders have made clear that what Rep. Ilhan Omar said was anti-Semitic and unacceptable. That is critically important because words matter. When any public figure repeats hurtful anti-Semitic rhetoric, it gives others permission to further spread such hate. It's on all of us to condemn this bigoted language.

From the discussions this week, we have seen that there is a lot of work to do to educate many people, including elected officials, about what anti-Semitism is and how seriously it must be taken. ADL has been fighting hate for more than a century, and it is work we will continue to do in the weeks and months ahead.
