New York, NY, December 1, 2016 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today welcomed a unanimous vote in the U.S. Senate to reauthorize the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for an additional ten years. The Act was due to expire at the end of 2016.
The House reauthorized the bill by a vote of 419-1, and the Senate vote was 99-0.

Congress’ vote to extend the Iran Sanctions Act is a crucial bipartisan commitment that the United States will continue to stand up to Iran’s aggressive behavior, including its illicit ballistic missile program, and have the ability to put sanctions quickly in place if Iran violates the nuclear agreement.
Since the signing of the Iran nuclear agreement in 2015, the Islamic Republic has not ceased its aggressive behaviors with missile testing, sponsorship of terrorism, threats against Israel, rampant human rights abuses and state-sponsored anti-Semitism. The ISA enables the U.S. to make clear that Iran will be held accountable for its actions while still upholding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
We commend the authors of this critical bill, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) and Ranking Member Eliot Engel (D-NY), for their leadership and call on President Obama to sign the sanctions act into law.
