New York, NY, November 16, 2023 ... ADL’s (Anti-Defamation League) Task Force on Middle East Minorities urged the European Union to designate the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
On October 10, members of the European Parliament called for the European Union (EU) to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Their appeal follows a resolution, adopted by the European Parliament on January 19, 2023, which called on the EU to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. In the light of the recent developments, we encourage the Council of the European Union to take up this issue as a matter of urgency.
ADL’s Task Force on Middle East Minorities co-chair Marjan Keypour Greenblatt stated that, “By now the atrocities committed by the IRGC and their affiliates inside Iran and abroad are well known to the world. It is incumbent upon the international authorities to decide to take action and designate the IRGC as a terrorist entity. Anything short of that would be equivalent to tolerance for terrorism.”
Reverend Johnnie Moore, member of ADL’s Task Force on Middle East Minorities and president of the Congress of Christian Leaders stated:
“It is time for the EU to move from words of solidarity to action. We have reached a point of reckoning in Europe where its leaders’ decision on this single issue is a historic test. It is the line between pretty words and actually saving lives.”
