Tell your California State Senator to make sure big social media companies stop hiding hate.

Big social media companies can't be trusted to regulate themselves. It's time for real transparency.

We know that social media is used to spread hate speech, racism and misinformation. And that social media platforms haven't taken needed steps to manage this harmful content. They haven't even provided clear reports on their policies and enforcement.

California bill AB 587 helps fight online hate by making social media platforms more accountable by requiring them to publicly disclose their policies and enforcement regarding online hate, racism, disinformation, extremism, harassment and foreign political interference.

Government mandates and oversight are necessary. This is why ADL supports California's social media transparency bill, AB 587.

We Need Reports We Can Read

Platform "transparency reports" fail to provide meaningful information about hateful content and how it is addressed. These reports are confusing, uninformative and evasive. Currently, big social media companies have few legal or financial incentives to improve.

See how this California bill provides the structure and requirements that will help make reports we can read a reality.
