On October 12th, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) held a “Day of Resistance” on college and university campuses across the country.

Based on the event’s promotional materials, this planned “resistance” appears to include an endorsement of Hamas’s terrorism and violence in Israel. These materials call for “dismantling Zionism” and “normaliz[ing]” and supporting Hamas’s “resistance in Palestine,” which the organizers describe as “both morally just and politically necessary” – even though such attacks have included kidnappings, murders, and reported threats to execute civilian hostages.  Such conduct is, by any and all standards, absolutely unconscionable. The attempt to gloss over Hamas’s atrocities and shift the narrative by using the term “resistance” does not change the facts on the ground.

We are deeply concerned, especially in light of this week's terror attacks in Israel, for the physical, psychological and emotional safety well-being of Israeli and Jewish students, faculty and staff on campus.  This is particularly true at a time when SJP has described Hamas’ massacres of Israelis as “a historic win for Palestinian resistance,” and called for “Not just slogans and rallies, but armed confrontation with the oppressors.
