ADL's Uniting for Good logo

On July 10, 1913, visionary Chicago attorney Sigmund Livingston gathered a group of prominent Jewish leaders to fight back against the rampant antisemitism facing the Jewish community. Books, newspapers, radio and plays that promoted appalling Jewish stereotypes were permeating American culture.

Understanding that the fight against one prejudice cannot succeed without fighting all prejudice, ADL was borne from a bold new idea: to create an organization with a mission “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.”

In honor of ADL’s 111th anniversary and the critical role our supporters have played in fighting hate, we invite you to join other concerned people in the ADL community in our Uniting for Good campaign through July 31.

“… I want ADL to be here, doing the same great and critically important work for my grandchildren that it was doing for my grandparents, and I want it to be even more effective. From generation to generation, ADL only ever goes from strength to strength… and this is in large part because of the foresight and generosity of donors…”

“I’ve been involved with ADL for decades. I got involved because of my own personal encounters with antisemitism. I wish ADL was not as needed as you are, but I am glad you are here when we need you.” – Larry A.

My parents survived the Holocaust. ADL is so important right now. Thank you for the work you do.” – Frances K.

I am committed to the goals and principles of ADL not only for Jewish people, but for all people. There are so few non-partisan paths to make the world a better place for all and ADL is at the top of my list of great organizations actively working every day to accomplish these goals. –Gary L.

“There have been multiple people and events in my life that have inspired my appreciation for what ADL does and what it stands for. As a child and a young man, seeing the contrast between people I knew personally who were Jewish and the bigoted comments I would sometimes hear was eye-opening, especially when these comments came from people who had no real relationships with people who were Jewish…” – James M.
