This book tells the story of a Japanese American family's story of internment in a Utah enemy alien camp during World War II. In 1942, the two children and their mother are forced to leave their Berkeley home and spend three years in a dusty, barren desert camp. Their father was previously taken from their home one night by the FBI and was being held in New Mexico. After the war, the family returns to Berkeley to their now vandalized home. They struggle to adjust to post-war life and the hostility they continue to face.
