New York, NY, August 8, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today issued the following statement after developments in the case of the Israeli-American teenager Michael Kadar, who was accused of carrying out a series of bomb threats against Jewish community institutions this year. The reports allege that Kadar sold his services on an online platform that was shut down by U.S. authorities last month:

The new information does not change our view that the bomb threats against Jewish institutions were anti-Semitic and harmful to the communities targeted. No matter who placed the calls or why the calls were placed, the outcome was the same: they instilled fear and disrupted communities across the country.

ADL will continue to take this issue very seriously and look forward to working with our law enforcement partners on any new developments.

According to ADL research, since January 2017, 167 bomb threats have targeted Jewish institutions across the country, including Jewish Community Centers, schools, synagogues and ADL offices in New York, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Boston.
